Ingredients
  • vegetable oil

  • 1 kg chicken pieces

  • 200 g flour

  • 5 ml salt

  • 1 ml pepper

Gravy

  • 30 ml butter

  • 25 g flour

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 250 ml milk

  • 250 ml hot water

Method
  1. Pour the vegetable oil into a deep frying pan until it is 5 cm deep — alternatively you can use a deep fryer

  2. Combine flour, salt and pepper

  3. Roll each piece of chicken in the flour

  4. Once coated place the pieces into the hot oil

  5. Cook for about 30-35 minutes turning once, as the oil should be deep enough to cover the pieces

Gravy

  1. Heat a saucepan and add about 30 ml of the oil from the frying pan

  2. Add the butter and flour — blend and cook until golden brown

  3. Gradually stir in milk and hot water — stir until smooth and thickened
